AMERICA SHOULD BE GRATEFUL TO HAITI

This book America should be grateful to Haiti shows people of color experience dominant discourses about colonization, the transatlantic slave trade, and racial justice. Roger Persaud’s fearless analysis starts by deconstructing the history of Haiti, particularly its indigenous Taino inhabitants, prior to Columbus’s entry into the Americas. The work uncovers the manner in which Columbus and the conquistadors began mass genocides, fabricating lies about indigenous inhabitants being savage and Africans being less than them. It goes into the destructive impact these fabrications had, including the exploitation through forced labor by Africans and the brutal colonization of the Americas.
